The Mountain GeoNetwork is a metadata management system adopted by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) to promote access, use and sharing of geo-information resources in the Hindu Kush-Himalayan region.
The system promotes systematic development of metadata adhering to international standards in a distributed and decentralised network environment. The system supports three international standards like ISO, FGDC and Dublin Core.
A GeoNetwork GIS portal is a one-stop web application that provides the ability to
search a catalog that references numerous GIS information. Each catalog can reference GIS content
that is managed and held locally as well as content held in other GIS nodes on the network.
Footprints of the satellite images are published in the Google Earth environment providing the inventory of image datasets currently present at the centre. This also helps in identifying the data gaps in terms of satellite images in the HKH region.
The system is embedded with web based client for any OGC compliant mapping servers. The centre has WMS services enabled for various GIS datasets which are linked with metadata system of GeoNetwork.
